In times of uncertainty, when systems feel fragile and trust in institutions falters, where do we turn for hope?
We turn to each other.
Across the globe, communities are witnessing deep fractures—from the struggles in Venezuela to challenges right here at home. In moments like these, connection becomes a lifeline. Community-based organizations like Visioning Beyond Violence (VBV) remind us that real power lies not in distant policies but in our shared humanity, in the healing hands and listening hearts of our neighbors.
VBV's mission is rooted in a simple yet profound belief: that safety begins with storytelling, art, and inclusive dialogue. Through culturally rooted, trauma-informed programs, VBV helps communities move from pain to possibility. Whether it's through our art curriculum, our workshops, or exhibitions of powerful panels, we are creating spaces where grief is met with grace and silence gives way to voice.

When institutions feel distant, community becomes sacred. Local support networks like VBV offer more than services—they offer belonging. They anchor people during storms of fear, injustice, and loss. They remind us that healing doesn’t require permission from power. It grows in circles of trust, in classrooms of courage, in communities who refuse to give up on each other.
We saw this clearly during an exhibition in East Oakland, where over 600 people gathered to witness student-created panels expressing their hopes to end gun violence. One panel, created by a student who had once felt invisible, moved viewers to tears. “That night,” she shared, “was the first time I felt like something I did mattered”.
This is what hope looks like.
Visioning Beyond Violence is more than a project. It is a movement led by artists, educators, youth, and survivors who believe we can imagine and create a future free from violence. It is a space where resilience is nurtured, where youth transform trauma into truth, and where community solutions are not only possible—they are already happening.

Now more than ever, our communities need each other. And they need us.
Join us in building a future rooted in creativity, care, and connection. Support the work of Visioning Beyond Violence—whether by sharing a panel, attending a workshop, volunteering or making a donation. Every act of support is a stitch in the quilt of our collective healing.
Because what we can imagine, we can create.
